Special cells in the eye to set our circadian rhythms 24 hours, which determine when we sleep and light we're awake. It has become apparent that these cells play a Visio, Johns Hopkins University led by neurobiologist Samer Hattar new investigation in other roles. The Group noted that the cells of the brain at least in mice, a wider objectives than previously thought and enabled mice other light sensing cells carrying out spatial data is missing from. These findings Challenge conventional views about the vision and offer new hope for correcting blindness.

Abstract (July issue of Neuron)

Plants and most animals have a protein that helps protect them from DNA-damaging UV light.

Ultraviolet (UV) rays cause, and not just the sunburns, but also genetic mutations, cancer and cell death. Most of the Plants and animals (with the exception of placental mammals, such as human beings) photolyase protein repair the damage. However, few Researchers, we know that the operation of the process to determine, biophysicist Dongping Zhong, Ohio State University DNA exposed to UV light and then ultrafast laser snapshots to catch that action. Complex protein photolyase is brought to the attention of the electron and proton damaged DNA reversing lamps seconds billionths effects. When complete, the electron and proton returned to photolyase complex. such information may lead to future remedies for UV damage, immediate.

Fly embryos without gene enhancers lose their hair at extreme temperatures. Courtesy of Nicol?s Frankel and David Stern.

Individual gene is often several parantajina, DNA regions, which contribute to the development of scientists it is suspected that some parantajina is backed up in such a way that the desired traits are expressed in the middle of a failure, also the environmental and genetic conditions. Princeton University evolutionary biologist David Stern, led by team is found to support this idea. removal of two Researchers appear to delete parantajina gene coding for the development of the fruit fly larvae hair, they noticed that the intermediate temperatures, the hairs properly formatted. But in extreme temperatures, lost a lot of embryos without parantajina their hair as the larvae. Observations confirm that such a development, flexible parantajina in front is a challenging conditions.

Abstract (natural, commencing on July 22)

Model may help explain division of labor in social insects.

Vaahtolasi organism consists of various functions in cells, which together will ensure the survival and reproductive success. Sergey Gavrilets, University of Tennessee at Knoxville, theoretical biologist has developed simple and biologically realistic model that shows how the cells can be dedicated to the critical tasks. He stated that the Division of roles and responsibilities could be relatively quickly, depending on the type of mutation rate, cells and other factors. Theoretical results may also explain the starting point of the bodies of the social insects, and, more generally, the origin of the biological diversity in the Division of work.
